Message-ID: <1143861122.26914.14.camel@frobisher.madeley.id.au> The UCC's first LAN for the year, the April Fool's LAN is starting at 3pm today! It's going all night, so don't stress too much if you can't make it till later. Remember the LAN is free for UCC members and $5 for non-members (or join the UCC at the event). If you want to be fed pizza, it will cost $5 (we order a selection of pizzas and everybody shares). As well as your computer and yourself, remember to bring a network cable (a blueie) and any power cables you require. If you have spare power strips, bring those too (write your name on them). You won't need any switching hardware, we have that covered. There will also be Nintendo DS and PSP gaming, as well as the Gamecube and possibly an Xbox. Cameron Hall is smoke free, alcohol free and drug free premises. UCC has a variety of reasonably priced snacks and soft drinks available for purchase throughout the night, however people are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks. We recommend people bring a bottle of water. The cashbox was damaged and most of the cash inside removed; the Gamecube, Xbox and associated controllers and paraphenalia were taken. The police were called. Anyone with any information is urged to contact them on 9381 6811, or you can contact me on 0409 506 857. Your anonyminity will, naturally, be preserved unless you request otherwise. The UCC Committee will be discussing the security of the room at tomorrow's meeting. There have been other thefts in Cameron Hall recently, and the matter is on the agenda for SOC tomorrow night. The cashbox is Out Of Order - Coke members can take your money and will hold it until we have a new cashbox. Many of our Coke members are trained in martial arts, and attempting to rob them may result in the loss of head-neck connectivity. Guild IT has advised us they will be relocating their equipment into a new rack tomorrow morning, which will result in the loss of UCC's uplink for a period of around two hours or so (we hope), starting at (about) 9:00am. We're also taking this opportunity to upgrade Mussel, Martello and Manbo, so most services will be offline. More details are available on the [tech] list (http://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/pipermail/tech/2006-April/003052.html). But don't take my word for it, let satisfied UCCan James Andrewartha tell you why he loves UCC::Camp... "Ever since I started going to UCC Camp, I've seen Grahame make a fool of himself in many different ways. I really love getting away from it all and catching up with UCCans while fragging them." Big thanks go out to James French, Chas Stan-Bishop, Mark Tearle, Dave Thackaberry, James Andrewartha, Chris Bobridge, Elaine Walker, Davyd Madeley, Matt Johnston, Susie Hellings, David Adam, Stephanie Cooke, Nick Bannon, Grahame Bowland, Adrian Chadd and Alex Dawson. These people gave up their Sunday afternoon for you. Yes, the room has been rearranged. The trestle tables are now gone and the filing cabinet and tool cupboard moved. Given the recent spate of breakins and current lack of gaming consoles, the TV has been moved out of view, so it looks less inviting to try and steal. This has made space for the new cashbox and for a higher-up projects/laptops bench with numerous power and network ports (as well as the Ubuntu-port) running along the wall. This will allow members to do projects or plug in their laptops without having to get in the way of workstations and other people. People in this area have easy access to the tool cupboard and the machines behind them, so they don't get in other people's way. You may use the space to play games on your laptop, but as with all UCC facilities, doing any other work takes precedence. Of course, the couches and coffee table remain available and there is power and network on that side of the room too. The new layout has significantly opened the clubroom up and made it feel more spacious. The position of workstations has been well tested on a game of ET. Once again, the fascist tidiness regime is in place. Please do not make a mess of your clubroom, it is unfair on everybody else you share this space with. Door members are ever vigilant and there are repercussions for those who wantonly leave litter or mess around the room. --Davyd Madeley UCC Secretary, 2006 -- Davyd Madeley http://www.davyd.id.au/ 08B0 341A 0B9B 08BB 2118 C060 2EDD BB4F 5191 6CDA From davyd at madeley.id.au Thu Apr 27 13:52:09 2006 From: davyd at madeley.id.au (Davyd Madeley) Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2006 13:52:09 +0800 Subject: [ucc-announce] UCC News Message-ID: <1146117129.5289.107.camel@frobisher.madeley.id.au> Ladies and Gentlemen, please stay tuned for... _ _ ____ ____ _ _ | | | |/ ___/ ___| | \ | | _____ _____ | | | | | | | | \| |/ _ \ \ /\ / / __| | |_| | |__| |___ | |\ | __/\ V V /\__ \ \___/ \____\____| |_| \_|\___| \_/\_/ |___/ This fortnight in UCC News: ============== UCC Camp 6.5 ============== UCC Camp is happening the weekend after next.
