Thus we are obliged to hold an SGM to elect his successor. This SGM will be happening on Tuesday the 15th of August in the Cameron Hall Loft. The meeting will start at 1pm. We hope the meeting will be over quickly, but you can bring your lunch if you want. You will have received another email on this already, but to paraphrase: This meeting serves to elect a new Ordinary Committee Member to replace Matt Johnston. Nominations in advance are not required, if you wish to nominate yourself or another person, you can do so at the meeting. As with previous UCC general meetings, voting will done by the "N-1" system. Unlike other Cameron Hall clubs, the UCC does not allow voting by proxy. Voting over the Internet is NOT be permitted as it makes it very hard for the returning officers. Only financial members of the club may vote in the SGM. ========== Quiz Night ========== Mark it in your diaries, the UCC vs. UniSFA Quiznight Megabattle is happening on August 25th in the UWA Tavern. Start getting your table of 6-10 ready as tickets will go on sale soon. Rounds will be table vs table, interround competitions will be club vs club, so don't worry about what club you want your table to be. =================== UCC Birthday Dinner =================== UCC is turning 32/0x20/2^5 and no matter how you look at it, we think that's a great reason to have a celebration. So this year we're having dinner at the Royal Perth Yacht Club on the 15th of September. The three course meal (with vegetarian options) will cost around $40. Members past and present are welcome as are partners and UniSFAns. More details as we finalise them. (If you have the email addresses of any old-guard members who won't have received this message, please either forward it on, or send us their email address. We'd love to get in touch with them.) ======== T-shirts ======== If you have preordered a UCC t-shirt, PLEASE pick it up and pay as soon as possible. We might lock your account, otherwise, and you don't want that! If you didn't preorder (bet you're kicking yourself, huh?) there's still a few available, so head down to the clubroom and look for a committee member who can stick your name down for one. --- --- You have been reading UCC News. From velithya at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Fri Aug 18 12:14:43 2006 From: velithya at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Jen McCutcheon) Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2006 12:14:43 +0800 (WST) Subject: [ucc-announce] Announcing the Cameron Hall Charity Vigil Message-ID: Hello everyone! (apologies if you get this multiple times.) I am here to announce the seventh annual Cameron Hall Charity Vigil. Since last year's timing worked so well, this year we will be holding the vigil on the last friday before the study break (that's September 8th) through to the saturday (September 9th). We will be supporting the same charity as last year, the Stand By Me Youth Service, a local charity that provides a drop-in centre and many programs to support young people and disadvantaged youth. Last year we raised just over $1800 - let's see if we can top that this year. To come along, you need to either -get a sponsorship form from Unigames, UCC, UniSFA or UWAnime (they should be available this afternoon) and collect at least $8 sponsorship OR (the wimp option) -pay $10 at the door (of course more substantial donations are always welcome) Of course the point is to raise money for charity, so you should all choose the first option. In addition, there will be a prize for the person who raises the most money for charity! (Note that anyone who sponsors themselves $8 for the purposes of saving themselves $2 will be subject to much scorn.) We'd like to add in an additional plea here. Please try your hardest to raise as much sponsorship as possible. We really want to beat last year's total, and when you think about it, something like $20 is only $2 from 10 people. And if you can get the first person to sponsor you $5, everyone else is likely to sponsor you $5 as well. :P Activities during the night will include (subject to finalisation): -Movies and Anime! Two screens of the best pop culture money can download or rent. Either in the UWAnime or UniSFA clubroom, depending on your choice of poison. -LAN gaming! Bring your computer, LAN cable and headphone (these are very important) to the loft and join the fun. There will be a few guest boxes available if you find yourself computer-less on the night. -Board games! If you suck at anything requiring skill, someone might bring Snakes And Ladders if you wish hard enough, and Unigames does have Hungry Hungry Hippos. Talisman and Settlers will also be available. -Dungeon crawl! Like to beat things to death with an overpowered fighter, but don't want to spend hours on character creation? Unigames will be running one-off dungeon crawls for those who are interested. -Food. And Drink. Entry includes pizza for dinner and pancakes for breakfast. The fridges and machines of all three clubs will also be open for business, with all profits going to charity. Tea, coffee and milo will also be available. We would like to thank Madman Entertainment and the Co-op Bookshop for generously providing prizes for our raffle and for the person raising the most sponsorship. Please remember that the Cameron Hall Charity Vigil is a strictly alcohol free, drug free and sleeping free event. So, collect your sponsorship forms from this afternoon and start raising money! Get your tickets before the night for $5 or $10 at the door. There may even be prizes, auctions, liquor and who knows. =============== Freedom Vigil =============== The Cameron Hall Freedom Vigil (known by others as the Charity Vigil) will be held this year on Friday September 8th. For UCC newcomers, the Vigil is a chance to stay up all night and play computer games, while raising money for charity. Our chosen charity for this year is the Stand By Me Youth Service, which runs programs and provides advocacy for teens. There'll be more than just a LAN running during the Vigil, though - Unisfa will be screening movies, UWAnime will be running an anime screening, and Unigames will be providing boardgames and running one-off dungeon crawls. Pizza for dinner and pancakes for breakfast will be provided free. Entry will cost you $10 at the door or at least $8 sponsorship, but of course please try and get as much sponsorship as you can. Forms will be available in all relevant clubrooms by this afternoon. ================================= Coke and Door Groups: Heads up! ================================= All members of Coke and Door groups are reminded that they need to read their UCC mail regularly - at least once a week. This is particularly important in the next fortnight, as group members can expect an e-mail that they MUST respond to if they wish to keep their position. You can read your UCC mail at http://webmail.ucc.asn.au/ - if you're interested in setting up automated SPAM filtering with a minimum of fuss, a wheel member can show you how. ============================ 0x20th (Oppression) Dinner ============================ The UCC 0x20nd Dinner is on, sign up at http://ucc.asn.au/dinner06/, etc etc. If you can't make it to the dinner because you're out of the country, you're on night-shift at the NOC or any other reason, we'd still like to have you in spirit if not in body. Send us a postcard! Members and ex-members can send us a postcard saying where they are, what they're doing and their current cell number or security clearance, if applicable, to: Dr ACC Murphy Box 22, M300 Guild of Undergraduates University of Western Australia 35 Stirling Hwy Crawley, Western Australia, 6009 We'd like to get postcards from anyone who's ever been an UCCan, so pass the word on! ====== Lore ====== Thanks to the hard work of Grahame and his crack team of contributing monkeys. Lore is coming. It'll be a bumper issue, and it's out before piffle, so spend your piffle money buying a copy of this instead. --- This Murphy's Lore was brought to you at the expense of 50 minutes of extra sleep I could have had. I hope you're grateful you dirty, unwashed sods.
