Subject: Welcome To New Members

Although it was a little warm yesterday (and some people decided they
didn't need sunscreen) the freshers weren't driven away. The UCC signed
up 56 first time members yesterday; so welcome new people. I hope
everyone makes you feel welcome.

For the statistics junkies:
108 people joined the UCC on O'Day
56 of them are new members
82 of them are Guild members
26 of them have Gmail addresses, but 32 have hotmail addresses
36 of them are studying Engineering and 35 are studying Computer Science

If you haven't been up to the clubroom yet, come and check it out. We're
located on the second floor of Cameron Hall, above the UWA Tavern.
You'll find the entrance to Cameron Hall in the courtyard between the
Tavern and Shenton House (indigenous studies).

Subject: Computer Accounts

Only 6 of our new members have signed up for UCC computer
accounts. You can't use the UCC computers, networked drink and snack
machines, email, &c. without a UCC computer account.

Come up to the clubroom to get an account. Make sure you bring your UCC
membership card. You will want to ask a wheel or committee member.

Wheel members look like this:

Subject: Upcoming Events

The UCC runs a number of events throughout the year (not that you'd know
this from the state of our website). The two important events coming up
are the Fresher's Welcome (14th March) and the Annual General Meeting
(25th March).

     March 2008

23 24(25)26 27 28 29 : 29 March - AGM 1pm (common lunch hour)
30 31

The Fresher's Welcome is an event for all members of the club, new and
old to welcome the new members and help them put some names to faces.
There will also be some graduated (old-guard) members around to prove
that there really is life after Uni. The UCC puts on FREE PIZZA for
first time members. Repeat offenders will need to pay $5. As always,
it's being held in the UCC/Loft.

The AGM is the time when the committee for 2008 will be elected. All
financial members of the club are welcome to attend. Freshers will be
particularly interested in running for the position of Fresher Rep (of
course, you can run for any other position you like). The AGM is being
held in the Guild Council Meeting Room. If you don't know where that is,
turn up to the UCC and follow the trail of bodies.

There will also be our first LAN at some point, but it's currently
booked to happen on a date that doesn't exist. Let us just say that some
people are not used to leap years.

Subject: Planet UCC and mailing lists

Members with weblogs are welcome to join our Planet.

    http://planet.ucc.asn.au/

All that is required is a sensible RSS or Atom feed and to contact
the Planet Master via planet at ucc.asn.au.

New members who haven't learnt to say no have been subscribed to
ucc-announce, the Announcements mailing list, but you may also want to
subscribe to the general chatter UCC list. It's much better than a
forum.

    http://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/ucc

Any rumours you here of there also being forums are blatantly untrue
myths perpetuated by a bunch of Something Awful goons.

Subject: Renewing Memberships

Members who have not yet rejoined for 2008. Now is the time to renew
your membership. A good time to do this if you work is Monday.
Alternatively we'll probably put up a handy webpage at some point,
maybe. Prices have not changed from the last couple of years.

Subject: Snack Machine

"I didn't know he was an elite hardware hacker!" "He's also a doctor!"

Messir Adam would like to advise people of his brilliance in installing
a Mifare card reader into the snack machine. Log into the snack machine
with your UID and pin and then swipe a Mifare card (such as a UWA
student/staff card or a Smartrider) over the sensor to register this
card for use with the snack machine and coke machine. No more UIDs to
remember!
