From mattman at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Fri Sep 2 07:24:21 2011 From: mattman at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Matt Didcoe) Date: Fri, 2 Sep 2011 07:24:21 +0800 Subject: [ucc-announce] Guild Elections 2012 - Clarifications Message-ID: Dear Members, I feel an email is required to clarify a few matters relating to the UWA Guild of Undergraduate elections and The University Computer Club Inc.'s involvement. Reports on social media websites (including http://uwaguildelections2011.tumblr.com/ and Facebook [various groups, walls]) suggest that The University Computer Club Inc. is putting independent candidates forward to further our own agenda. Of the independents (and larger party members), only one, Ashley Tyndall, is an active member of the Club and was at no time encouraged by the Committee in a formal* capacity to run for Guild office. As interesting and delightful as these groups/people might be, after investigation it would also appear that no UCC member is responsible for the Facebook profile 'George Smiley' ( https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002900274084), the group StarLiberty (https://www.facebook.com/groups/169394793137792/) or the Tumblr entitled "Guild Election Gossip" (http://uwaguildelections2011.tumblr.com/). The University Computer Club Inc. is generally disinterested in the electoral process and will work with whoever comes to power in the Guild election to continue our good working relationships and look towards improvements in Cameron Hall while we wait for any move that may or may not happen next year. Should you become aware of a person or persons indicating that The University Computer Club is in some way forcing agenda or running candidates for our own benefit, please contact me immediately so we can rectify the matter. The Guild Election Committee are hell bent on stamping out anything that is remotely election related and I do not want our club tied to any of it. Kind Regards, Matt Didcoe [MRD] Vice-President (2011), The University Computer Club Inc. mattman at ucc * informal/personal opinion is a completely different matter but cannot be discussed here as per Guild Election Regulation ? 631(1)[a] -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... As most of you will now be aware, a Computer Clubs camp (previously called UCC Camp) is being held from Friday, September 30 to Monday, October 3 2011. Further details can be found at http://wiki.ucc.asn.au/ComputerClubsCamp2011. Subsidised tickets to the camp at the very reasonable price of $80/ea are in short supply so get in early to avoid paying the full price. Given we need catering numbers to the camp, the final day for ticket sales will be Sunday, September 25. I urge you to attend as without your support a few things happen: (1) the club loses money; (2) we look stupid with the Guild who have offered some financial support; (3) those who bother to organise events get sad and disheartened, which leads to a decrease in events; and the most important of the lot (4) It should be a good weekend to catch-up with people away from the Uni atmosphere and engage in some computer and non-computer related activities. To book email bob at ucc or tpg at ucc (or find them in the clubroom). Cheers, Matt Didcoe [MRD] Vice-President (2011), The University Computer Club Inc mattman at ucc
