[ucc-announce] May Events and Happenings at UCC

Good evening UCCans! 

We have quite a few happenings this month, including our next event,
'Dive into DNS' (Tech Talk #2) this coming Tuesday, from 6:30pm. Find
out more here [1].  

Charity Vigil goes online! 

It's that time of year again where UCC comes together with fellow clubs
PCS [2], Unigames [3], and UniSFA [4] to raise money for charity. All
profits from the event will be going to Zonta House [5], in support of
those at risk of family and domestic violence. 

This year we can't hold it in the traditional Cameron Hall - but we're
not letting that stop us from teaming up to raise money for a worthy
cause! So come down (virtually), play some games, and pitch in to have a
good time with some fellow students. 

We will be setting up a special Discord server for the event, which will
be announced in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more details.

Account Locking  

Haven't yet renewed your 2020 UCC membership? Accounts for 2020 will be
locked over the next few weeks if you are no longer a financial member
of UCC.  

If you'd like to continue being a member of UCC, you can renew your
account online quite easily: find the details for that here [7]. 

Wondering about the deadline for renewal? Keen to look at pretty graphs?
We are hoping to live-stream membership sign-ups/renewals during the
upcoming Charity Vigil.

We have three upcoming Tech Talks for May! Please note that two of these
will be held at our regular time (18:30 on Tuesday), while one of the
talks is planned for Thursday as a part of the upcoming Charity unVigil.

UWA eSports Competitions 

UCC is hoping to collaborate with UWA Sports to hold a few eSports
Tournaments over the upcoming winter holidays. If you're familiar with
titles like FIFA, NBA 2K, Rocket League, and Super Smash, and/or have
experience with the technical bits of running a gaming touranment,
please let us know! This is a super exciting opportunity to collaborate
with the University, with the potential for students to possibly gain
recognised volunteer hours through UWA. Keen to help run, play, or teach
someone else how to do it? Get in touch with Committee.  

Network Changes at UWA 

If you're not already in the loop, UCC has been facing a few hard
deadlines from the University regarding their network changes. Our next
deadline is Friday; keep an eye out on our Discord and Facebook for
announcements of any breakages.  

If you're a part of UCC, knowledgeable in network and administration,
and have not already reached out to UCC's Wheel Group [12], please get
in touch by contacting Wheel at wheel at ucc.asn.au, as we may need your
help to keep up with these changes! 

Clubroom Access 

While restrictions have been somewhat relaxed in WA, it is likely that
UCC will remained closed until Semester 2. Keep an eye out on UWA Guild
pages for announcements of any changes to Guild space access - however
we will be sure to contact you when the clubroom is open again. We are
excited to announce also that our computers have been still hard at
work, with some of their power directed towards UCC's Folding at Home [13]
efforts, which are helping to fight COVID-19. We're now in the top 2% of
teams!
