I'll repost my earlier message without attachments...

Jason,

how in the world did you discover that InstaComp stuff? You're absolutely
right that the code in dcmp #3 has been derived from InstaComp - I was able
to locate it within InstaCompOneTool application! The latter seems to offer
more compression modes though.

I don't know if you already own the InstaCompOne SDK from 1994. Anyway, it
contains a MPW tool called InstaCompOneTool that can be directly invoked
from the MPW shell for compressing, decompressing and viewing of InstaComp
archives AND resources. It includes a guide in the DocViewer format as well
(requires Apple DocViewer 1.1.1).

That all is not only cool but also very handy because we got the
appropriate compressor too. I'll dive into it tonight and see if I'll be
able to figure out further details...

P.S.: I already reversed that InstaComp algo. I'm writing a Python
decompressor for it right now. The stuff has turned out to be easily
understandable. Stay tuned. I'll commit that beast in a couple of days.
That will be another Christmas gift for you, hehe!
