It was proposed at the end of last year that we scrap the bumper edition
Fresher's Guide for a smaller document and a lot of rich web content.
Since that time, we have set up the beginnings of that new web site
through http://beta.ucc.asn.au/ however transfer of content has slowed.
In addition to this, there has been no additional increase of Fresher
based content (especially by the parting Freshers).
So, this is what I'm thinking. We do the bumper editor for one more
year, I quite like the bumper Fresher's Guide as a medium, and every
time I look for sections to cut out I find it really difficult. Yes,
it's big, but it's already really handy, especially when you have no
idea what you're doing.
I would also like to see the completed migration of the existing web
content to the beta website and us sending the beta website live before
O'Day. Stealing a page from the GNOME project, I would propose that we
do this through a Love Day. We could do this one of two ways, on #ucc or
in the clubroom. Since we have a clubroom, I would be tempted to do it
there. People should find it very easy to migrate content, and then some
especially dedicated people can set to work fixing up some of the
remaining issues, like the fact it doesn't play nicely with IE yet.
Material rewards for attendance could be offered.
This way we are getting the best of both worlds. A kick arse new website
for 2005 and a complete fresher's guide, that definitely doesn't cause
the fresher's to lose out on any information.
Now is the time for serious objection.
