Hello Club Committees
As you are aware, the Card Reader Locks on Cameron Hall are inhibiting the ability of non-student members to maintain an active present in Cameron Hall.
Non Students are able to attend events only because the additional security the locks provide are being circumvented, defeating the purpose of the locks.
Ideally we are looking for a situation where we have clear pathways for non student members to have access to the clubs.
My intention is to send the below email to the Tenancy Committee.
At this point, I’m not aware of who is on Tenancy. If I don’t get a decent answer to this, I intend to get this sent to the new SOC president.
I’d like to include UniSFA and Unigames, CC’d into the email.
They are clubs of which I am an active member.
I do not intend to speak on these club’s behalf, but I feel having all three clubs i’m involved with included as part of the email chain helps show that this is not impacting one club a small amount.
I also appreciate feedback on this. My end goal is to make it as easy as possible for myself and other non student members to continue to volunteer for clubs.

To Whom it may concern,
My name is Matt Winslade, one of the OCM's for UCC, the University Computer Club, for 2019-2020. I'm looking to speak to tenancy about the addition of the card reader locks to Cameron Hall. I'm not a student. I graduated in 2016. By being locked After Hours, from 6PM, the card-reader locks are inhibiting access to the club for non-student members, like myself. Speaking personally, I work full time. The only time I am available to volunteer towards my role on committee is hours that I am now not able access the building.
I am non-student member of three clubs within Cameron Hall. These would be UCC, UniSFA and Unigames. I'm a former committee member for Unigames and UniSFA. I am Currently trusted to hold the Unigames clubroom, as a Gatekeeper. This is a responsibility I hold or have held for all three of these of clubs. I won't be speaking for Unigames or Unisfa, but its important to know that Cameron Hall clubs represent a large portion of my time at university and I want to continue to volunteer towards these clubs. As part of this, I have been helping run events since I graduated. I attend busy bees to help maintain the clubroom. I assist with Food Runs. I also attend events when I able. With the card readers in place, I need to be let into the building to do these things, which is more than inconvenience to myself and others.
UCC has a large number of former students who continue to volunteer time and resources to maintain the club, the clubroom, and the clubs systems and resources. These members regularly meet on Mondays after hours, to do project work that benefits the club. This includes maintenance on some of the clubs resources. Nearly all of our events are run after hours, typically after 5PM and or on the weekend. At current, our regular committee meetings are after hours. If there is a system issue or a problem with the club's servers, we also need non-student members to be able to go to the clubroom and fix whatever problem there might be as promptly as possible. This is part of the reason we have 24 hour access.
I understand why the locks were put in place. The purpose of this email is to ask how best to work within this system.
How do I access Cameron Hall, and the clubs I volunteer for, after hours?
What is the expected process I am to follow?
With their committee's approval, I've CC'd UniSFA and Unigames into this email. I look forward to hearing back from you about this.
