Hi all,
So you are aware, there was an incident at UCC on Wednesday morning
around 7am. Two people entered UCC, one by climbing into the room from
the loft and the other after the door was opened from the inside, had a
look around and presumably attempted to steal the safe and its contents.
It also appears they took a shirt from the shirt rack (although that was
inside at the time). Fortunately nothing of significant value was taken
although there is some damage to the safe mount which will need to be
repaired.
The incident has been reported to UWA Security and later to police, who
categorised it as "attempted stealing". Feel free to review a timelapse
of the webcam images
<http://gozzarda.ucc.asn.au/timelapse/timelapse.mp4> (you may need to
download first if it doesn't play from your browser).
*Please contact committee if you are aware of any further information
relating to this incident.*
UWA Security recommended installation of a CCTV camera which they can
use to monitor the clubroom, given that it is not a closed space and
contains valuable equipment. We would need to push for this with the
Guild ourselves though.
One thing to note however is that the building was left open at the time
of the incident.
Hence, this is a reminder to all door members to please carefully follow
the proper room closing procedure. Especially important is to ensure
that *any loose valuables are placed in either the tool cupboard or
machine room*, the tool cupboard and machine room are locked, and to
*close and lock both the upper and lower doors of the stairwell and the
fire escape if you are the last person or group* of people in the
building. (if there are other people around, please remind them to lock
up the building themselves when they leave). Please also remember to
bring the shirt rack inside.
Best regards,
Felix von Perger
UCC President
