Hi Felix

Thanks for getting in touch - it is great to hear that UCC is keen on improving its culture. I would recommend meeting with representatives from our autonomous departments and unpacking the concerns that people have expressed. From there, you can put together an action plan to improve your culture.

I have CCed in the following:
Bre Shanahan - Women's Officer
Martha McKinley & Saskia Mason - Pride Officers
Saleem Al Odeh - Ethnocultural Collective Convenor

All the best

Subject: UCC - diversity issues

Hi Conrad,

As President of the University Computer Club, I would like to ask for assistance from the UWA Student Guild to fix what I see are a number of issues with the club's culture.

The UCC has a serious lack of diversity amongst its active member base and committee, and has had for an extended period of time. Especially compared to the other clubs in Cameron Hall, and the University community in general, there is a noticeable imbalance in the gender distribution of our members and absence of LGBTQI+ individuals.

Furthermore, following events over the past few weeks, it has come to my attention that the UCC has a reputation throughout the University as being unwelcoming if not outright discriminatory towards women and certain minority groups including queer and trans people.

I understand that the Guild and the University have access to resources which could be of great benefit to the UCC in resolving these issues.
Would you be please able to connect us with representatives from the Women and Queer departments, as well as anyone else you think would be able to provide input?

If you have any thoughts on how we could go about having this discussion and facilitating positive change, please let me know.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Felix von Perger
UCC President
