[committee] What if...

Hi all,

As a bit of a followup to my previous email "Re: Wheel generational
issues", I'd like to ask for feedback on an idea that I've been
pondering for some time now.

It's not a tech thing, but I'd appreciate your input anyway.

Let us suppose, that on an annual or biennial basis, the Committee
decided to purge all the members of the Wheel and Door groups.

In order to apply (or re-apply) to become a member of either of these
groups, one would simply need to answer a few questions by the
Committee, including -

  * Why do you want to be a member of <group>?
  * What would you bring to the club as a member of <group>?

My inspiration for this comes in part from the process by which Unigames
and UniSFA appoint their respective gatekeepers and CCC (ie. door
members), and over the past few years through careful selection, they
have succeeded in completely changing the environment and culture of
their clubs.

I believe it is possible to have a successful system where regular
wheel/door reapplications occur. With that process I believe it is
possible to cultivate a healthy and sustainable volunteer culture within
the club, where all members feel equally entitled to positions of power
and trust.

Just a few thoughts.
