Hi CSSC,

Hope all is going well, and hope you get your clubroom back soon.

I'd like to propose a few options for collaboration, over the winter
break and next semester, since UCC and CSSC are both computer clubs and
probably there is a reasonable proportion of members with similar interests.

Firstly, we're organising a couple of events ourselves over the break,
primarily UCC Camp 2019, two nights from 12-14th July at Camp
Leschenaultia - see the Facebook event at
https://www.facebook.com/events/1946484708796218/

Essentially the camp is a social event but with a heavy focus on
interesting tech stuff and creating an environment for people to work
collaboratively on computer-related projects, including pitch sessions
and some hands-on computer networking tutorials. We're also encouraging
students to run talks/workshops on topics they think are worth sharing -
so far we have talks about getting started with Software Defined Radio
(SDR) and DNS Tunnelling with iodine. In short, it's going to be a fun
and interesting weekend, and tickets are available to students for only
$70 (until 16th June).

If you would please be able to share the event and details with your
members, that would be fantastic.

Regarding other events - on the 17th June (2-6pm) we are running a "Tech
Fixup", which will involve a range of server administration tasks to be
performed on our server infrastructure (in the UCC clubroom). The intent
is for people who are interested in systems administration to get some
hands-on experience and at the same time engage with the more technical
side of the club. Let me know if that sounds interesting and I'll keep
you up to date.

Another interesting opportunity has come up relatively recently - David
Glance has been organising an Ethical Hacking group at UWA, with the
intention to compete in various online competitions against other
universities. Completely coincidentally, next semester we are hoping to
organise an event for people to compete in an online Capture-The-Flag
competition (CTF) of some sort next semester (unsure which one, but it
will probably be a 24-48h event held in the Cameron Hall Loft). If
you're interested in collaborating we could work on getting
grants/sponsors for food/drink/etc during the event, and also promoting
the event.

Next semester we'll also be running a series of tech talks and workshops
focusing on various interesting things, including an "intro to sysadmin"
course, among others. Again, it would be great if you could help by
sharing these events with your members (let me know if you're interested
and I'll keep you informed).

Lastly, we'd be very keen to organise a "Computer Club Quiz Night" -
since CSSC already runs something like that I was thinking we could
simply work together on organising it this year. Sometime around
August-September would probably be best, if you're interested. For this
we could also contact some of the several other computer clubs on campus
and see if they would be keen - including Data Science Club, Coders for
Causes, Robogals, etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Felix von Perger
President of the University Computer Club (UCC)
