Hi All,

Just my input (hopefully it's worth more than 2c), for whatever initial (hopefully diplomatic) approach we take with Guild, I think the below could be a good template for an argument we put forth about why they shouldn't kick us out. Sorry if it seems petty, but hopefully it makes sense and actually seems reasonable.

Before I begin, let me also mention this: "I think our best approach (initially, and which is in motion), is to open up functional lines of dialogue between us and guild, and simultaneously lodge a formal appeal" (copy-pasted from what I wrote on Discord). If we don't want our "appeals [to be] functionally laughed at" (as mentioned by [JMA]), then I think "it is important for us to have functional dialog with them, not just a series of comprehensible emails to them and their incomprehensible responses [, as] They won't laugh at us to our face".
TL;DR: Be respectful with Guild so they don't have any grounds to cause us more pain, but actually talk with them face-to-face, if we can.

Otherwise, here's my argument (for us to expand on, edit, and present to them):
1. UCC requires a clubroom to functionally exist
1.a. One of our main reasons for existing is to provide our members with direct access to a network of computer hardware they wouldn't normally have access to (desktops for gaming or playing with Linux, servers for learning how to manage enterprise hardware, network gear, etc.)
1.b. Without a clubroom, we cannot provide access to this hardware
1.c. Without being able to provide access to this hardware, we would not be able to sustain one of our main reasons for existing, and thus would cease to functionally exist
2. UCC has a large membership and following, consisting of a large number of current students, and additionally graduates, who all highly value the club and what it stands for
3. UCC is of historical significance to the university, and has been in existence for over 40 years
4. Taking away something that a large number of people highly value is a great misfortune
5. Taking away something that of historical signficance is a great misfortune
6. Causing a great misfortune without apparent good cause is grossly unjust
7. There does not appear to be apparent good cause
8. If the guild does not wish to be grossly unjust, it must not cause great misfortune
9. If the guild does not wish to cause great misfortune, it must not take away something of historical signficance
10. If the guild does not wish to cause great misfortune, it must not take away something that a large number of people highly value
11. If the guild does not wish to take away something of historical signficance, it must not cause UCC to cease to functionally exist
12. If the guild does not wish to take away something that a large number of people highly value, it must not cause UCC to cease to functionally exist
13. If the guild does not wish for UCC to cease to functionally exist, it must not take away the clubroom
Therefore,
14. If the guild does not wish to be grossly unjust, it must not take away the clubroom

FIN

Cheers,

Hi all,
As some of you might be aware, all Guild clubroom tenants are subjected to a three-yearly "full reallocation" process where they are made to reapply for their clubrooms. This occurred earlier this year, and UCC submitted its application in due course.
It was announced late today that UCC's application was considered unsuccessful, and we wouldn't be having our tenancy renewed. Additionally, Unigames and UniSFA have received notice that they are being reallocated to share a room somewhere in Cameron Hall.
See attached for the full letter/justification from Tenancy. We're currently trying to arrange a meeting with Omar/Tenancy to discuss and come to a better understanding as to why they came to the conclusions they did in the letter. We're also planning several lines of review, including on both substantive and procedural grounds.
There's no real way to put this other than it sucks big time, even in the case that a dragged-out appeals process finds in our favour. We're going to need to work together as a committee, a club and between all the clubs affected by this decision to reach any sort of favourable outcome.
Additionally, Wheel and everyone else interested in the running of the club's infrastructure is going to have to work together to plan for various contingencies, up to and including having to move it all away from the University.
There's a lot of work to be done. I probably haven't covered everything, but I thought this email needed to be sent sooner rather than later, considering the news is already all over Cameron Hall and that will need discussion at the AGM. We'll try to keep you all updated as things unfold.
Yours,
James Arcus
UCC President
