UWA Student Guild
Events Postponement
To all UWA Clubs and Societies,

I hope you are all staying well during this time. New announcements made by the Government today have resulted in the updates below.

Events and Club Rooms
Due to the new social distancing measures requiring four square meters per person, from Monday all events will be postponed. This is an extremely difficult decision to make, but in the context of medical advice to limit social interaction, there is no other option. If you have any difficulties with suppliers while cancelling or postponing events, please get in touch with our Events Department. They can help you with negotiations.

These new social distancing measures have also given us no option but to close Guild spaces. This will extend to all club rooms. By Sunday, we will be restricting access to Cameron Hall. Please ensure you have removed all items you will need from these clubrooms by this time, and take the time to check things like fridges, power and so on.

The CCZ will remain accessible as it is the point of entry to Guild Offices to avoid contact with visitors to the Medical Center. Consequently, most club storage should still be accessible. However, we will not be accepting new bookings for these meeting rooms or the Guild Council Meeting Room. We advise all clubs to conduct their meetings online (via Zoom or Microsoft Teams) where possible. Alternatively, you can still book meeting spaces in the Libraries, which have taken on increased social distancing and hygiene measures.

Campus culture
In the meantime, we encourage all clubs to explore online options for maintaining club culture. This will be a period of intense isolation for many people and now more than ever it is important to foster a sense of community and to look for one another.

Tenancy allocations
In light of the current crisis, we have taken the decision to suspend the tenancy reallocation process for 6 months. Current tenants will remain in place until we re-evaluate this decision in six months time.

We hope that this will alleviate some of the pressure currently on tenants to undertake the appeals process. Open appeals will be suspended for the time being. We are working with the Governance Committee to organise how this will work logistically and will be in touch with any updates as soon as we can to ensure you are kept in the loop. We assure all tenants that developments with coronavirus will not affect their tenancy applications.

Guild Finance
The Guild is hoping to limit cash at the moment. If you need to withdraw we will organise a bank transfer. If you need to deposit money, we ask that you do so at the Westpac ATM in the Guild Village and we will transfer funds into your bank account. This may be a difficult period financially so if you need help please do not hesitate to reach out.

Please make sure you are taking care of yourselves – this is an unprecedented situation and bound to take its toll. If you ever need extra support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Student Assist team at assist at guild.uwa.edu.au.

Kind regards,

Jacob Roosendaal
Societies Council President
