Tried to run being the important part of that sentence, based on
some providers I know that own Foundry equipment - I know of
at least one large ISP who have a year-old BigIron they still haven't
managed to get to do it's (relatively simple) task.
That said on the L4 front I can't really recommend Alteons either.
We use them and don't have any serious problems with them but I've
become aware of far more minor flaws I've had to work around than I'd
like to.
I'm still not returning calls from the Foundry sales guys. Although
they did put us on to Tiara who look interesting, for terminating
E1s as VLANs on, say, a Cisco router GigE interface, and not having
to worry about having so many 4E1 PAs in so many routers. But their
sales people didn't ever get back with detailed specs for me to know
if they can do exactly what I want (ie, configure Tiara simply as
"port 1-5 multilink vlan 10, port 6 vlan 11" etc, then plug into
router and configure IPs on router and talk directly to the other
end - that's what I'd like to do, but their product info isn't clear
enough as to whether that would be supported).
