As below: users of ssh.ucc.asn.au and other ResNet services (including 
outgoing network connections and incoming mail) can expect a loss of 
service for 'about one minute' at some stage between 0700 and 1000 on 
Saturday.

THIS INFORMATION HAS BEEN SENT TO:

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:         
Recabling of power connections for various ITS equipment.

DATE:  
Saturday 16th August 2008.

TIME:       
07:00-10:00 (7-10am)

GENERAL DETAILS:
Power will be briefly disconnected for the following equipment during
recabling:
    Media converter on router zapata
    Dialup server illium
    Backup firewall

The servers Manticore and Hera are subject to a hazardous situation only
as they are on the UPS and thus have an alternative power source.

IMPACTS:
The following services will be unavailable for brief periods at some
time during the outage window:

  * Those connected to the DIALUP service will be disconnected when power is
    lost.  No connections will be possible until a reboot is complete,
    which takes about 10 minutes. 
  
  * There will be brief interruption (1 minute) to the RESNET internet
    service and the CENTRAL PLANT FMI.
  
  * The backup firewall will be unavailable for 5 minutes.

The Hazardous situation 
  * for Manticore - will affect software downloads via Eclipse if there is
    not a smooth transfer.
  * for Hera - should have no immediate impact as it is the backup webserver. 
    The UWA website will be unavailable if there are problems with both
    the UPS and the primary webserver.
