Hi everyone,

For some time now, there has been discussion on the UCC mailing list about
incorporating the club. This is something that has been proposed a
number of times in previous years but has failed, mostly due to it
being unnecessary at the time, and the amount of effort the initial
process takes. The money that the club received as insurance from the hail
storm has acted as somewhat of a catalyst to the process, and hence this
email.

There are a number of reasons for, and consequences of incorporation, most
of which have been covered on the ucc@ mailing list, starting mid-October:
http://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/pipermail/ucc/2010-October/thread.html . I
encourage anyone with concerns to first check these archives, then to ask
on the committee at ucc.asn.au or ucc at ucc.asn.au lists.

Amongst other things, incorporating involves modifying the club
constitution to comply with the Associations Incorporation Act 1987, while
maintaining our compliance with UWA statutes, the Guild regulations made
thereunder, and the SOC council rules. This has involved changing and
adding several sections, from the first section (Name) to the last
(Dissolution).

Some changes have also been made to protect UCC investments, while other
changes have been made after input from past and present members to remedy
ambiguities and problems with our current constitution. The following is a
pdf link to the most recent draft:
http://bob.ucc.asn.au/draft_constitution_2_2.pdf

Given the magnitude of the changes proposed, I strongly suggest all
members read the draft and have at least a basic understanding of what
incorporation will mean for the club. Once the constitution is (mostly)
agreed upon, Committee will announce a Special General Meeting where
(hopefully) the members will vote to incorporate and adopt the
constitution amendments. I've done my absolute best to ensure that the
draft is error free, so please let us know if you find any mistakes.

Finally, all the best to everyone going into exams!
