Hi everyone~
I hope everyone’s getting lots of rest. I’ve come down with a cold so make sure you’re wrapping up warm and not getting sick!
Things for your eyes:
- UniSFA Goes: Ice Skating! This is a thing, it is happening on the 21st of May (that’s this Saturday) from 1:45pm at Cockburn Ice Arena. If you want to turn up and rent some ice skates so you can slip and slide all over a frozen rink, then now is the time to do it! Here’s a link to the Facebook event if you want in on that: https://www.facebook.com/events/970930533003322/ <https://www.facebook.com/events/970930533003322/>
And here are the minutes from this meeting:
UniSFA Committee Meeting 13/05/16

Absences: Toby Joske, Jono Astbury, Jake Alexander, Patrick Mitchell
Agenda
- Committee Reports
- Last week's action items
- Camp
- "Moneybox”
- Events
- Book Themes
- General Business
Begin: 1:33 pm
1. Committee Reports
President
Sick.
Vice President
Leah changed the code on the brown cupboard, set up the lockbox, handed in posters to Uniprint to be laminated and will laminate other posters as well later. Got money out for arts and crafts night, it was really fun. Leah can’t remember other things. But yes.
Secretary
I emailed the debating people about them wanting the clubroom but nobody got back to me, what’s up with that? Also I got a flu shot. Then I got the flu. But I won a prize last night for being pretty so it all works out.
Treasurer
We have money. Tim has looked at costs of having a tav party, we should be able to do it. Also reviewed the fridge prices but is not entirely sure who needs to approve changes to that… And he has notes about the moneybox system.
Librarian
Reggie measured the cabinets with books in mind, and doesn’t think they’re all going to fit. We may fit just the anthologies, most definitely won’t be able to put fanshrine in the cupboards. We can apply for extra storage space? And Reggie and Chris have been planing a fresher event, it’s fine.
Fresher Rep
Spoke with Reggie about the fresher thing, wasn’t able to see Toby in person so will do poster stuff later with Leah. Freshers are dead.
OCM Report - Jake
Not available at this time on a Friday.
OCM Report - Jono
Singapore.
OCM Report - Patrick
Probably busy.
2. Last Week’s Action Items
Leah is going to do the risk management form for LARP after she’s submitted the EMP.
That’s about it… Everything else is done or the people who are needed to discuss it are not here. Moving on.
3. Camp
Leah forwarded the emails about prices to everyone and also posted up a “review” thing on the committee Facebook page. Basically what it comes down to is: DARE is good because it’s different but it’s gonna be more expensive and we have to make sure we get numbers (maybe at least 60) so we can afford to book out the whole camp which is doable but ehhh. Woodman Point is definitely out (see last meeting’s minutes if you want details). Lesch is starting to look like the best option in Leah’s mind. We will almost certainly make a profit and will get full run of the camp.
Chis thinks we should play it safe and not make a loss.
We probably won’t decide this today with so few people here. Be we do want everyone to be in agreement about where we have camp.
Leah is leaning towards Lesch but we will need everyone here to decide that permanently.
Can someone send Leah a copy of the UNiGames camp code of conduct? I can do that.
Also Reggie can make a post on the CCC page asking for activity ideas for Camp. People also need to say if they’d be willing to help run it. Reggie does that in the middle of the meeting. Nice.
Tim says we should have some people get bronze stars or bronze medallions because there is water at the camp and we’ll need someone who can rescue people who are drowning. Tim was looking to do that but he can’t be the only one. Get one of the jocks to do it.
Who’s keen to get an RSA? A few people. It costs money. Fuck, I can’t afford that much… If we can get it done before semester two, it’ll be optimal. That can be something to think about. Later.
4. “Moneybox”
Toby is sick and doesn’t want us to talk about this without her.
5. Events
Taylor is here to talk about quiz night. It went well and we all had fun, even if there were some typos on the questions. Taylor went to the tav and they won’t send an invoice until the end of the month. There will be a quizmittee meeting probably before the end of the month as well. We will probably split the revenue and then have the invoice split four ways. Taylor has calculated things and based on the highest that our invoice is gonna come to, each club will make about $150? But there are a couple things we may have to pay for with the tav, or not pay for, so we’ll figure things out. The coin toss game made a surprising amount of money so please always do that at similar events. The catering went well. We all agree the catering was a good idea. And the ticket prices were still reasonable. So yes things went pretty well. What a good night.
Ice skating is happening on the 21st of May. Jono is organising it and we presume he will get on that shit. (How will he do that and also be in Panto? We don’t know.) But ice skating’ll be cold and we like cold.
Fresher Rewelcome! We want an indoor picnic and we will sort out food for that. After that, we can run a screening of Steven Universe (Me: Hissssssss) or maybe games of some description. We can use the Wii or our Steam account for games, or little board games maybe. Mario Maker! Yaaaaaay I want Mario Maker. Our current plan is to run it on the 26th, so the Thursday afternoon- Wait no that’s the day of UniGames’ Escape Hunt. Okay let’s not do it then. Maybe the Wednesday? When is book nerds? Well whatever, that can be moved. We can run this on the 25th. Chris finishes his class at 5 that day. We can have picnic at 5, then screenings at 6. Freshers decide what order things go in. Does anyone know how to set out the Wii? We can attempt it. We can also ask Jack to teach us how to set it up. So we’ll need a food budget, someone to buy the food, and someone to get the things we want to screen. Tim has to do the budget, so he can organise people to help with that. Chris can download things to screen. Ask freshers what they want to watch, do what they say.
Destress Thing… We will set up a chat to talk about that.
LARP is happening, Leah will submit an EMP for that. Leah needs to talk to Tim about money for events leading up to the LARP.
At swancon, Leah/Toby were given cards by a guy who made a game for a VR simulator and he’s offering to do a demonstration of it for us, so thinking of booking out a room in the CCC area and set up a demo of that game there? We also would like suggestions for things to do on Friday night next to LARP. Let’s go to a neko nightclub! Let’s not. Maybe like a videogame cafe or something? We need to think about that.
6. Book Themes
We can’t do this cos Toby isn’t here. Okay, then. But we all really like “books that make you angry” as the theme after this one.
7. General Business
We have large posters and one other poster that is getting laminated, all for the ceiling. Other posters are going to Uniprint for lamination. Then others are going to be trimmed and laminated by Frames.
We have to fill out the calendar a bit more because there a lot of blank spaces. Also, everything on the calendar should have a Facebook event for them. One of the OCMs should go through it making events for them.
People should keep sending in book reviews. We have some reviews, we could have more.
We’re all so tired.
At some point we have to: look into shirts; review the fridge prices; think about moving books (Reggie thinks we can just move anthologies and wants to do that at the end of semester so okay).
Good news: we found the key to the lock on the secret cupboard! Yaaaaay~
There are some things in the brown cupboard we want rid of. Leah made a post about radios, but then what about that computer? Tim wants to salvage things like the Ram/hard drive/small bits and pieces but get rid of the huge box etc. He can partner with someone from UCC to look at it and find out if it’s worth it. It’s taking up room, we don’t want it there.
Other people have been applying for CCC! We can do a review at the next meeting and then at the start of next semester. At the very least, we can look at the applications an see if we want to increase the number of CCC we have.
Finish: 2:13 pm
Action Items
Everyone - Think of ideas for what to do on that Friday next to LARP day.
Leah - Submit LARP EMP; Talk to Tim about money for LARP-adjacent events; Contact VR guy?
Corin - Send Leah a copy of the UniGames code of conduct.
Tim - Make a budget for the Fresher Rewelcome picnic food; Talk to someone at UCC to see if anything from that old computer is worth salvaging.
Chris - Find out what freshers want to screen and download it.
