You could try my Wizard kernel; I /know/ its USB works.  (It doesn't
have usbdevfs though so it won't do scanners or cameras or such.  It
works for mice, keyboards and mass storage-style memory sticks.)  It
also seems to run a good deal better than the Debian bf24 kernel.
