Your (and my) recollection is incorrect. The Guild website says that we 
are required to have a Guild bank account but there is no prohibition on 
holding external accounts. Henry from Guild Finance apparently suggested 
it in the first place.

The direct deposit ability _is_ the point. At the moment, money sent to 
our PayPal account (several hundred dollars in memberships every year, at 
least) has to go through private accounts in order to get to the UCC, 
which is a bit undesirable.

Additionally, reimbursing people for significant amounts of money is a bit 
of a pain with cash or cheque as our only options from Guild finance (see: 
it took us about two months to get [HMC] his cheque), so if we could get 
EFT access too that would be good.
