On the side of the job:
Better some money than no money. Also, I imagine if someone were to do a good job of it they would probably find themselves a fair amount of work in this arena

On the side of the 'event':
This is an AMAZING idea! My only reticence would be towards how it would be run and who would have control over the discussion. I can see the possibility that someone from the Senators office might try and turn this into a 'LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN DO' kind of thing.
