Hello

I am a linux newbie. I bought a wizard, ostensibly to use as a fax
server for my office.
I changed the root password, downloaded David B's kernel and tarball and
installed it.
I can now boot either into Debian or the old Red Hat distribution. The
Debian install appears to work fine.

But, I cannot get my USB memory stick (Ninon brand 128 K) to work.
I do not get any log message when the stick is inserted into the USB
port, and cannot mount it.
The same memory stick works fine with Windows and my main PC's Debian
install.

I have enabled USB in the wizard bios ( with legacy support)
Hotplug appears enabled in that I get a start up message :' Starting
hotplug subsytem USB'

Dmesg reports :

usb.c registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.cv registered new driver hub.
host/uhci.c USB Universal host controller driver v1.1
usb.c registered new driver hid
hid-core USB hid core support drivers
Initialising USB mass storage driver
usb.c registering new driver usb-storage
USB mass storage system registered

Lspci reports that my USB controller is a Compaq CC USB Open Host
Controller

Is the UHCI controller driver installed OK with my ? OHCI USB hardware?

Two other USB devices ( a modem and a USB/ethernet interface) also do
not produce console messages on plugging in.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards
